Where Are You Now” a hit at Ryman Auditorium along with new and old songs including Simon and Garfunkel cover

Where Are You Know” Mumford and Sons

By Stephen Pate – Mumford and Sons performed at the Ryman in Nashville, TN on March 6th, 7th and 8th. The band of young folk rock enthusiasts delighted the crowd with new material and songs from their popular CD.

“Where Are You Now” may be on the new Mumford and Sons CD that is in late production. We don’t know for sure.

The song was a hit with the audience at the Ryman during the band’s two-hour performance this week.

Mumford And Sons call Nashville their spiritual centre. The Ryman in downtown Nashville started as a church but now is the temple to country music.

To attend a performance there has magic since the hall has hosted the best and finest in music for decades. In my travelling software sales rep days, I got the thrill of attending concerts twice in the hallowed hall. It was awesome, magical.

Mumford and Sons were a relatively unknown alt-folk-rock music when they appeared on stage at the 2011 Grammy Awards with Bob Dylan and The Avett Brothers. That TV appearance took North America by storm. People were scalping $50 Mumford tickets for $1,000 last spring.

At one point the band was joined on the Ryman stage by Dobro great and personal friend Jerry Douglas for a cover of Paul Simon’s The Boxer. The audience joined in with a resounding sing-a-long of the chorus.

Jerry Douglas is of course just one of the best Dobro players in the world. He is a band member with Allison Kraus and Union Station. Jerry says he let the boys in Mumford and Sons sleep on his coach in their early days.

Covering the Ryman concert, Donna Peerce wrote in The Examiner – “Mumford & Sons started performing “Sigh No More” with the beautiful harmonies and clarity of tone that sent goosebumps down my arm. Their voices carrying far into the auditorium. Haunting words of truth and pain, very “old” for these young adults who are in their 20s. Each musical note was a piece of perfection. Harmonies so sweet that they trickled down the walls like thick golden honey, seeping inch by inch into the rafters and corners of my soul.”

Mumford & Sons – “Broken Crown”

“Mumford & Sons performed for almost 2 hours. They played many of their hits from Sigh No More as well as several new songs that are going to be on their sophomore album. They’ve been so busy touring, they haven’t had time to finish the album and promised they’d be going home soon to finish it for us fans!”

“More songs included “Roll Away Your Stone,” “Winter Winds,” and “White Blank Page” to name a few. In addition to these, “Lover of the Light” was played with Marcus Mumford on drums rather than guitar or mandolin. They featured a guest musician on “the fiddle,” as Marcus called it, banjos, accordion, horns, keyboards, dobro, acoustic guitar, bass fiddle and more. Ben Lovett played the piano like he was part of it, folding his body into the keyboards and dancing, finally throwing his baseball cap into the audience.” Check out the whole review.

Mumford and Sons are touring constantly. The played the White House on Wednesday evening this week.
